BREAKDOWN: Tyler Sugiyama, a 5-foot-10, 150-pound freshman guard is a solid floor leader with a high basketball IQ. He is a very good ball handler and has excellent court awareness.
HIGH SCHOOL: Sugiyama played high school basketball at New Trier in Winnetka, Ill. Was ranked among the top 250 players in the nation by Hoopscoop and ranked a top 10 point guard in Illinois by Scout.com. Was named to the 2009 class honorable mention team by the magazine Nothing But Net. Was named a Reebok All-American and was selected to the Cream of the Crop Top 40 at the Pangos All-America Camp in Los Angeles.
PERSONAL:Sugiyama was born on December 11, 1990 in Winnetka, Ill. Was selected to serve as a Congressional Page by Speaker Nancy Pelosi for the 2008 summer and worked in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C.
